”God rested on the seventh day.” — Genesis 2:2

Augustine, in book 1 On Genesis Allegorically, chapter 23, hands down that the Israelite people practiced sacrifices in the lands of the gentiles.1 Which, said indeed of the Paschal lamb, he says (in Retractations 1, chapter 10) is to be understood [in that sense], since the Jews could not sacrifice among the gentiles.2
