”He placed before Paradise a Cherub.” — Genesis 3:24

Theodore, Bishop of Heraclea, weighing this clause, thinks that the Cherubim, the guardians of Paradise, were not spirits endowed with reason, but certain specters, feigned for the sake of terrifying.1 See the following Annotation.
